While the topics that Thom deals with are as diverse as the concepts of The Commons to corporate influence to terrorism to touch-screen voting, Thom pulls them all together into a compelling argument for an overhaul of the American political system.Hartmann pulls apart the clichéd Conservative arguments that take the Founding Fathers out of context, as well as noted authors like Adam Smith. Instead, he shows exactly how historic and modern leaders have feared exactly what is happening in America -- the removal of democracy from our country, replacing it with "privatized" everything, and finally, the privatization of our vote, and eventually a new era of feudalism.The book is well written and well illustrated, and it brings the points home. Each chapter stands alone, yet the book reads as a concise whole, building upon each previous chapter. We the People is a very satisfying read overall, once the shock of realizing what has happened to our country wears off, and Hartmann's message of hope sinks in.
