Description

Product Description The papacy of St. John Paul II left an indelible mark on the American continent. Driven by his singular conviction of a "United American Continent "under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe, his papal travels from Argentina to Alaska generated massive crowds, shaped an entire generation, and ultimately changed the course of history. Narrated by Andy Garcia Review Offering an excellent history of Pope John Paul II s (1920-2005) extensive outreach to Central and South America, Haiti, and Cuba, as well as the United States, director David Naglieri s John Paul II in America makes a strong case that the late Bishop of Rome was heroic in his tireless championing of human rights, the politically oppressed, and those brutalized by ceaseless civil wars. The pattern and tone of John Paul II s many speeches become evident when witnessing back-to-back archival footage of his visits to El Salvador, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Nicaragua, and more, where he firmly states his beliefs that the Church supports freedom, dignity, and a release from poverty and fear. Various experts on John Paul II s accomplishments argue persuasively that his inspiration and affirmation of each individual s value helped spark the changes that helped bring about the end of sundry dictatorships. The pope s contribution to the fall of the Soviet Union and its grip on Eastern Europe is also examined, as well as his frequent criticisms of what he called a culture of death (referring to everything from abortion to callous acts of war and genocide) in contemporary civilization. Presented in both English and Spanish versions, this fine profile encourages a fresh look at John Paul II s legacy. Highly recommended. --Video Librarian

This video is so inspiringly beautiful it made me cry. (Now) Saint John Paul brought people of all nations, religions, and philosophies together with the simple phrase, "Be Not Afraid." He morally strengthened the poor and downtrodden, helped topple Communist regimes who blatantly and openly used human rights violations to maintain power, and repeatedly reinforced Christ's message that all life was sacred from conception to natural death. He repeatedly stated in industrialized countries throughout the world that abortion was wrong regardless of their governmental permits and beliefs and their offer of upscale death mills on the corners of major modern cities. He reiterated Christ's message that people must respect their own body and then love their neighbor with action not wealth, and that any human law that conflicts with God's Commandments is wrong. Pope John Paul reached out to the youth in a way that no pope has ever done in the past or has done thus far since. In that action, we hold out hope for the future. I would suggest this as a must see for anyone who is concerned with the way many church leaders seem to be conditioning and modernizing their flocks away from "Time Honored" Christian principles. There is hope..."Be Not Afraid."
