I have always been interested in the special operation units like the U.S. Navy SEALs, Army Rangers and other units. This fantastic hard cover Time book (Special Ops) covers America’s elite forces providing an overview of what these units do in the war against our enemies. All the special operation organizations are mentioned in this excellent 96 page text.This book is organized into ten chapters. The introduction (The Best and the bravest) is written by Bob Kerrey, a former U.S. Navy SEAL and former Nebraska U.S. Senator. The first chapter (Warriors for the 21st Century) covers the killing of Osama Bin Laden. The second chapter explains “the making of a Commando” with the mission of picking off the Somali pirates. The third chapter deals with “the special ops hall of fame.” The fourth chapter provides an over view of “the father of Delta Force and tells about how a hostage rescue leads to disaster. The fifth chapter “The mavericks take over” covers a mission of putting a hit on Iraq’s most wanted. “The killer elite” is explained in chapter six. Bringing down a drug kingpin is covered in chapter seven (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, and Spy). Chapter eight (Birds of Prey) deals with the Black Hawk down incident. Chapter nine reviews some of the problems special ops warriors face. The final chapter covers “warriors on the screen” which are inspired by real life special operation warriors.Anyone interested in the military’s special operation units should look into this brief but informative book put out by Time.Rating: 5 Stars.
