Description

In the two decades since Feminism and Suffrage was first published, the increased presence of women in politics and the gender gap in voting patterns have focused renewed attention on an issue generally perceived as nineteenth-century. For this new edition, Ellen Carol DuBois addresses the changing context for the history of woman suffrage at the millennium.

I read this for an American Feminism class. Very interesting book which traces the emergence of the independent women's movement / suffrage movement which DuBois argues starts in 1848 with the Seneca Falls Convention. From here women would align themselves with Garrissonean abolition and the book continues to describe the numerous tactics and strategies suffragists took to eventually separate themselves from the abolition movement.
