A well-written book about these three dedicated PUBLIC SERVANTS. They came out of high society in their time and life, and they found the will and strength in themselves to push back against their social restraints while pushing the welfare of our country forward. My own parents never forgave President Roosevelt that he agreed to having all ethnic Germans expelled from their homeland of the Sudetenland in (then) Czechoslovakia after WW II, when I was almost four years old. Today I know that we were indeed lucky to be deported to (what became) West-Germany, rebuilt soon on democratic principles, which even won praise by former Secretary of State, Madeline Albright, in her book PRAGUE WINTER.Why would the book THE THREE ROOSEVELTS - about three people who acted on the world stage 45, 70, 100 years ago - matter today? The look back in history matters. The look back where we were a hundred years ago, and how we arrived at today, and in what world our grandchildren might live fifty years from now is crucial. Presidents matter; First Ladies matter. Eleanor Roosevelt clearly mattered, as did our Michelle Obama. The incredible highwire act of politics that President Obama had to perform to inch our country forward, was not invented by him but a response to the pressures a democracy exerts on its leaders. TR and FDR had to be just as and even more nimble. Their BELIEFS mattered to the world, and that is where this book scores highly; we find out not only what happened, but why.I read this book in the interim between election day 2016 and inauguration day 2017; it provided a distinct contrast between the Roosevelts' form of leadership, governing, and vision for America, and what we see on the country's public forum today.
