2016 Chanticleer Media's Chatelaine Book Awards FinalistBeautiful, headstrong Marcella Scimenti has the affection of a handsome neighborhood boy, the love of her large Italian family, and serious dreams of singing in Hollywood. But the course of true love―nor the journey to finding one’s true self―never did run smooth. In America follows the story of Marcella, the daughter of the characters at the center of Nina Romano’s continent-spanning Wayfarer Trilogy, as she comes of age in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, in the late 1920s. In the trilogy’s heartwarming conclusion, Marcella must learn to balance new friendships, promising suitors, and life as a modern working girl with the expectations of her tradition-bound family, all against the backdrop of a looming economic depression and a changing world. Along the way, she unearths a devastating family secret that shakes her to her core and tests the boundaries of her love, loyalty, and faith.

I just took my copy of In America, by Nina Romano along on my vacation in Italy. I thought it would be fun to read about the characters, who had come from one of my favorite travel destinations, while I was there. This is the third in the trilogy by Ms Romano. I read the other two, and enjoyed them very much. This final book was just as fascinating and kept my interest equally as well. I loved the new character who is the offspring of the hero of thistrilogy, and I found her to be so typically American, young, and struggling for her independence. She loves her family very much, but she thinksshe's so very able to create a life different from that of the "old country". She struggles to find her own identity, with help from her loving father, her sister, and her boss. Her independence almost costs her some major loss in her life.I loved picking up this book each night on my vacation!! I couldn't wait to see what new excitement was about to take place.Nina Romano writes in a style that captivates her reader. I found myself thinking about the characters frequently. I'm sort of sad that thestory has ended for me.I certainly enjoyed participating in this family history. It was refreshing, exciting, and very interesting.
